After her, France returned.
Kylian Mbappe was the center of attention not only in the Argentine dressing room, but, much more logically, in the French one. The TF1 channel showed a documentary about the Deschamps team in Qatar, one of the most interesting moments was the leader’s speech after the first half.
Just in case, we recall: France burned 0:2, and Mbappe didn’t really succeed. But he did not want to put up with this and made a driving speech:
“Guys, this is the World Cup final, the match of a lifetime. In any case, it will not be worse than what we have shown. Now we’re going to get back on the field and either let them play the fool or turn up the intensity and go into martial arts. We must do something.
It’s the World Cup final! We are two goals behind, but we can come back. Hey, that happens once every four years.”
After that, Didier Deschamps added: “Guys, I will tell you without anger. Know what’s the difference? They’re playing the damn World Cup final and we’re not playing it!”
It worked: in the second half, France turned 0-2 into 2-2 with Mbappé’s brace and sent the game into hot overtime. There, Kilian scored more, but even that was not enough to win.
However, without Mbappe’s speech, the final might not have turned out so fantastic.
