— London In front of a London court on Thursday, Kevin Spacey entered a not guilty plea to four allegations of sexual assault against three men that reportedly occurred between 2005 and 2013. On one count of “inducing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent,” he also entered a not guilty plea.
The three men, who are now in their 30s and 40s, are accused of being assaulted in London and Gloucestershire, England, by the 62-year-old Hollywood actor.
Spacey personally appeared to contest the allegations at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, also known as the Old Bailey, in London. The judge granted Spacey continuous unconditional release and announced that a trial that would last three to four weeks will start on June 6, 2023, according to the British Press Association news agency. The judge announced that an additional hearing would happen earlier in 2019.
About a month ago, Spacey made his initial court appearance in connection with the sexual assault allegations, and he was given unconditional bail. At that hearing, he was not required to enter a formal plea, but his attorney stated at the time that the client “strenuously rejects any and all crime in this case.”
Britain Spacey, Kevin
On July 14, 2022, actor Kevin Spacey makes his way to London’s Old Bailey. After being accused of sexual misconduct against three men, Spacey appeared in court in London.
The actor declared in a statement to “Good Morning America” that he will face the allegations in court, and The Associated Press reported that he had vowed to “establish my innocence” when U.K. authorities gave police permission to arrest Spacey in May.
Spacey served as creative director of London’s renowned Old Vic Theatre for 11 years, from 2004 to 2015.
Numerous accusations of assault and inappropriate behavior against Spacey surfaced in 2017 after American actor Anthony Rapp claimed that, when he was 14, Spacey allegedly climbed on top of him in a bed. Two years after Spacey left the Old Vic, the theater revealed that its own investigation into his conduct had turned up 20 claims of inappropriate behavior. 14 of the people who made the claims, it claimed, were encouraged to contact the police.
British police questioned Spacey in 2019 on allegations of abuse made by a number of men.
“It appears that Kevin Spacey believes there is still hope for him to change in this nation. Therefore, I believe the plan is to come here, face the consequences, and see if he can save his career “PRWeek UK’s editor-in-chief, Danny Rogers, said CBS News in June. “After all the claims over the previous five or ten years, he must feel that “Brand Kevin Spacey” is being damaged. Therefore, even if the damage has already been done, there is still room for improvement by refuting fresh accusations.”
2019 saw the dismissal of a groping case against Spacey by Massachusetts prosecutors. Spacey had been charged felony indecent assault and battery. According to the district attorney, he abandoned the case since the complaining witness was not present.
Three years prior, Spacey was charged with touching an 18-year-old at a bar. Before groping him, the accuser claimed that Spacey purchased him numerous alcoholic beverages.
