In the Greek top league, some goals were lower than others. They dug a ditch – it did not help, the match was canceled

Events before the game “Atromitos” – “AEK” from the elite league of Greece – movies! After long discussions and measurements, the match was canceled due to the fact that one goal was 3.5 centimeters lower than the other. Once again: this is the top league in Greece.

How so?

During the pre-match inspection, the inspector noticed a difference in the height of the goalposts, which he reported to the chief referee, Evangelos Manuchos. He postponed the start of the meeting until the problem was fixed.

Ref gave the stadium workers half an hour. One of their solutions: Undermine the gate! Or to get them, or to keep the measurer behind.

It turned out a neat ditch, which was painted over with a line.

It didn’t work! And the referee let the teams and fans go home. The fate of the match will be decided later, while there are two options: either a new date will be set, or AEK will be awarded three points as a technical victory, since Atromitos did not provide the conditions.

For Atromitos, this match would not have fundamentally changed anything in the standings, but AEK, with a game in reserve, let Panathinaikos go ahead, who defeated Lamia (2:0) in the last round.

What is the standard size for football goals?

The official website of UEFA refers to the IFAB (organization for the maintenance and regulation of the rules of the game of football) and in Article 7  says :

• The distance between the inner sides of the uprights must be 7.32 meters.

• The distance from the bottom edge of the crossbar to the ground must be 2.44 meters.

• The goalposts and the crossbar must be white and have the same width and depth (each not more than 12 centimeters).
