He continues to run at the amateur level for his native club.

In 2022, former Zenit and Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel announced his retirement. His last professional club was Spartak Trnava. However, nothing prevents playing at the regional level.

The Slovak decided that health allows him to return to where he began to take his first steps – to “Hayskala” from Raztochno. Despite the fact that the defender is considered a graduate of the Slovak clubs Prievidza and Trencin, he played for Haiskala until the age of ten.

“I have spent my whole life in a team of players. I can’t imagine what it’s like not to come into the locker room and not be part of the life that goes on there. At the same time, I will miss the match-related adrenaline. The feelings you experienced once stay with you forever. It’s all over for me at the moment, but I believe I can muster up enough to play at least a few matches for my hometown Raztochno. I promised myself that one day I would return to Trnava, and I made the same promise to the guys from Raztocno. So I believe that I will succeed,” Skrtel said in May 2022.

And he succeeded. In August 2022, Martin signed with Haiskala. And today, in the game of the eighth Slovak division against Bojnice, he scored with a beautiful free kick.
