Ex-Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez spoke about his short stay at the club in the 2015/16 season.
“I have very good memories of the time when I coached the first team. That period was better than people think. Me and my assistants still think they didn’t let us win.
We made it to the knockout stages of the Champions League and in La Liga we were two points behind Barcelona with a game in hand. But after two months, Real Madrid were 12 points behind,” he said.
“In other words, Real Madrid took advantage of a team that worked well with me and then eventually won the Champions League and it worked. We were missing a centre-forward who wasn’t signed.”
